-A 26 year old history-
In 1990 an effort was undertaken to develop a fast, accurate and user-friendly radio propagation and network planning tool capable of utilizing terrain and land cover databases for projects in different countries. The application was to be designed such that the majority of its functionality be driven through graphical user interface or GUI. That application was called Romulus and it ran on a Sun Microsystems© Unix machine; a powerful computer at the time. Published and time-tested radio propagation models were implemented throughout the early 1990’s that included Okumura-Hata, Bullington, Longley- Rice among others.
The portability of laptops led the way for RF engineering departments to move from a centralized organization and adopt a more mobile and agile work force. Romulus was ported to a Microsoft Windows 98 environment that significantly reduced the cost of ownership and on-going maintenance. Its developers ensured compatibility with new renderings of the Windows operating culminating with Window 7. Romulus PC© was rebranded Comsite© after the acquisition of Douglas Integrated Software (DSI). Throughout its history, Comsite© was distributed throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, Central America and elsewhere promoting and delivering its core value proposition, e.g., reliability, accuracy and ease of use. Recognizing the power and flexibility of Microsoft Windows 10, key Romulus and Comsite developers and engineers that were the stewards of its core software for over 26 years came together in 2016 to create LMR Planner©, with a comitment to deliver unequaled accuracy, reliability and ease of use.
